Benny’s Punching Bag:
Trinidad-Mayorga versus Klitschko-Williamson

| Last weekend the boxing world had a double dose of
the sweet science. On one hand you had the knock down, drag out
brawl of the year that would cure any common cold of the average to
the die-hard boxing fan. The other was a heavyweight dose of bad
medicine that left some of the fans feeling quite ill. On the Don
King pay-per-view event the fans witnessed undoubtedly the most
entertaining fight of the year that featured the comeback of Puerto
Rican sensation Felix 'Tito' Trinidad 42-1 (35). After a two
yearlong hiatus from the sport of boxing Tito stepped in the ring to
face hard-hitting, no holds barred Nicaraguan slugger Ricardo 'El
Matador' Mayorga, 27-5-1 (23), at Madison Square Garden. The two
faced off for the vacant WBA North American and NABC middleweight
titles. Trinidad went down in the third round while Mayorga tasted
the canvas three times in the eighth and was finally subdued by the
onslaught of punishment Trinidad administered to the 31-year-old
fighter. The fight sent Mayorga into retirement and Trinidad on the
road to much better things to come.
Showtime’s featured main
event was between somewhat gun shy Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko,
43-3 (39), and DaVarryl Williamson, 20-3 (17), who both tried to put
a touch of sleep on each other. The heavyweight match-up proved
fatal to the fans and the questions surrounding Wladimir still
abound. The boos, the blood and the just downright ugly was what the
fans witnessed. A future heavyweight star that seemed to burn out
went down in the second round and was cut in the fifth before
winning by technical split decision. It left DaVarryl feeling
disappointed and Wladimir feeling that massive gash on his head,
while it was the fans who got the headache. When one fight seemed to
kill the passion, the other brought it right back in an outrageous
fashion. So, here it is loyal Doghouse readers, a chance to voice
your respectable opinions once again. Here are the questions and
